Sheriff Joe Baron offers active shooter response training

Sheriff Joe Baron is pleased to announce the Norfolk Sheriff's Office will begin offering Active Threat Training for civilians.

The training, which is free and open to the public, will be held quarterly at the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office Administration Building.

Both individuals and organizations are welcome to sign up for the training, however each session will be limited to 30 people to ensure there is enough space and resources for each person.

The Active Threat Training is based off the Department of Homeland Security Active Shooter Training and the Run. Hide. Fight. curriculum.

Active shooter situations are often over within minutes and it’s imperative individuals have the training and the knowledge on how to protect themselves and be prepared, both mentally and physically.

During the training, individuals will be encouraged to have a plan in place in the event they find themselves in an active shooter situation, how to respond to the active threat, and how to interact with law enforcement on scene.
