The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office held a ceremony to honor and remember Corporal Gibran Barclift, a beloved member of the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office family.

Cpl. Barclift was on duty inside the Norfolk City Jail when he passed away due to natural causes in August 2017. He made such an impact on his fellow deputies and team at the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office that Sheriff Joe Baron wanted to make sure that his contributions to public safety were always remembered.

At a ceremony on August 30, 2018, Sheriff Baron presented family, friends, and coworkers of Cpl. Barclift with a memorial plaque that will hang inside the Norfolk City Jail, where deputies will see it every day on their way into the facility.

Cpl. Barcliff joined the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office in November 2002. He was promoted to corporal in July 2017. He was cherished by all staff who he worked with. He knew his job and took care of his co-workers. He was funny and even tempered. He loved his job, his team, and his family. Cpl. Barcliff is an example of living by the NSO motto and Golden Rule, treating other as we would like to be treated.
