St. Williams Sgt. Cottrell Dep. Burrus D TeamNORFOLK, Va - More than 90 deputies with the Norfolk Sheriff's Office are showing off their facial hair for a good cause.

The scruffy faced staff members are participating in "No Shave November' to benefit Relay For Life.

A $30 donation, or 'dollar a day', allows male deputies to put down the razor for a whole month which otherwise runs contrary to NSO grooming standards.

Women are participating, too. Female deputies wishing to pay a 'dollar a day' can stray from the grooming norms by wearing a nail polish color that matches the color of a cancer awareness ribbon.

IMG 0138"Cancer touches the lives of our deputies and civilian staff members in so many ways, this is our way of fighting back," Sheriff Joe Baron said. "In October we featured our pink badges for Breast Cancer awareness. And now rounding out the year with this fundraiser is one of the many ways our staff lives out the NSO core value of commitment to public service.” Sheriff Baron said.

To continue with the fundraising momentum, Sheriff Joe Baron has approved "No Shave & Color Awareness" to run through the month of December.

But the fundraising is not over. Many NSO staff members volunteer to organize or participate in Relay for Life fundraisers throughout the year. The fundraising efforts will run through May.
