NORFOLK CITY JAIL RECEIVES PERFECT SCORE ON RECENT D.O.C. AUDIT
The intensive audit is performed every three years by representatives from the Department of Corrections. The audit evaluated how well the NCJ is maintaining standards set by the DOC regarding inmate life, health, and safety.
DOC auditors commended Sheriff Baron and staff on jail cleanliness, jail safety, and staff morale and camaraderie. Additionally, auditors commended the NSO on its high number of females in leadership positions.
“News like this continues to be a remarkable accomplishment given all of the challenges that you face on a daily basis in such a demanding career. It is only possible through your hard work, attention to detail, and sense of responsibility that we were able to accomplish this outstanding rating,” Sheriff Baron told staff in an internal memo.
The DOC will now recommend that the NCJ receive an unconditional certification by the Board of Corrections.
