Norfolk City Jail reaccredited by NCCHC

CONGRATULATIONS NSO STAFF!

NCCHC Acrred LogoOn February 7th, 2020 The National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) voted to continue to accredit the Norfolk City Jail for it's compliance with NCCHC's Standards for Health Services in Jail.

The NCCHC Standards provide the framework to ensure that systems, policies and procedures are in place to produce the best outcomes in the most cost-efficient and effective manner. Developed by leading experts in the fields of health, mental health, law and corrections, the Standards are recommendations for managing the delivery of medical and mental health care in correctional systems.

The inspection consisted of medical documentation reviews, numerous inmate and staff interviews, jail tours, and policy reviews. There are a total of 59 Standards. 39 “Essential” Standards and 20 “Important” Standards. There were no deficiencies in any of the required standards and the inspectors routinely acknowledged that the N.S.O. standards and practices met or exceeded the industry standard. At the conclusion, the inspectors stated to our staff they were impressed and raved about the N.S.O.’s meticulous policies, documentation, and implementation of Medical and Mental Health Standards.

Norfolk Sheriff Joe Baron stated, “I am extremely proud that we have once again met our accreditation standards for health services in the Norfolk City Jail. We are committed to public safety and providing an environment of protecting the life and health of the inmates in our care. I congratulate all who worked together to ensure we continuously meet these standards of operations”.

Below is the letter from National Commission on Correctional Health Care and Certificate of Accreditation to Sheriff Joseph Baron.
